Dawn K. Gull graduated cum laude from Evangel University, Springfield, Missouri, in 1992, and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Duquesne University School of Law in 1996, where she served as Vice Justice of the Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity. She was admitted to the practice of law in Pennsylvania in November of 1996, and has practiced family law since that time.
Ms. Gull was admitted to practice before the Federal District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in 1996, and before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in 1997. She is a member of the Family Law Sections of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and American Bar Association.
Ms. Gull began her legal career in 1996 as an associate in a small general practice firm in the Pittsburgh area. During her tenure there she gained experience in wills, probate, state and federal civil litigation, small business representation, medical malpractice, bankruptcy and criminal matters, as well as focusing on family law matters including divorce, custody, support, equitable distribution and adoption. Ms. Gull joined McCarthy McDonald Schulberg & Joy as an associate in the summer of 2001, concentrating her practice in family law. She was named a partner of the firm in September 2006.
Ms. Gull has experience in all aspects of divorce litigation, support, custody and equitable distribution issues. She has also represented clients in juvenile court matters and adoptions. She is a member of the ACBA Family Law Section, serving on Executive Council as Treasurer, and is current co-chair of the Children’s Issues Sub-Committee. She serves on the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Public Service Committee. Ms. Gull is a Fellow with the Allegheny County Bar Foundation. Ms. Gull serves as current President and former Secretary (2007-2009) of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Matrimonial Inns of Court, a professional group which promotes legal excellence, civility, professionalism and ethics. She participates in the Neighborhood Legal Services Pro-Bono PFA program, providing representation to abused persons in Protection from Abuse actions. Ms. Gull serves as the firm’s liaison with the Pittsburgh Pro-Bono Partnership, where she coordinates family law projects throughout Allegheny County. She has volunteered for the Allegheny County Pro-Se Motion’s Court program, assisting pro-se litigants in preparing pleadings to be presented to the court. She has also been a speaker and course planner for various continuing legal education programs in Pennsylvania and Allegheny County.
In addition to her legal affiliations, Ms. Gull has served on the North Allegheny School District 2007-2013 Strategic Plan Steering Committee. She is a trained Operation Safe-Surf Advocate of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, educating children and parents on safe internet use and avoidance of predators on the web.
