Arlene M. Oliver

Arlene M. Oliver is a paralegal at McCarthy McDonald Schulberg & Joy. A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Ms. Oliver received an Associate Degree in Specialized Business from Computer Systems Institute. Prior to working as a paralegal, Ms. Oliver held various positions throughout a lengthy career in both the public and private sectors.

Throughout her diverse career, Ms. Oliver has had the opportunity to work for a number of law firms where she has gained a breadth of experience. She has worked with worker's compensation claims, civil litigation matters, and has assisted in the preparation of wills and trust agreements, in addition to family law matters. She also has worked closely with the firms' clients, providing support and facilitating communication between the attorneys and their clients. In the public sector, Ms. Oliver has served as the Chief Administrative Assistant and Acting Chief Deputy in the Allegheny County Register of Wills. She has also served as paralegal, office manager and administrative assistant to a Commonwealth Court judge. This public sector experience has brought her an appreciation of how the court systems throughout the state and county function.

In 2004, Ms. Oliver joined McCarthy McDonald Schulberg & Joy as a paralegal. In that position, she lends technical and legal support to the attorneys. She assists with keeping clients informed, listening to their concerns and questions, providing information about procedures, scheduling and other general matters, and working with the attorneys to gather information and assist in case preparation. Ms. Oliver is also responsible for the preparation of legal pleadings, including all facets of discovery analysis, fact-gathering and organization for trial preparation, and assisting in settlement discussions. Her skills enable the firm to offer quality service to clients at a lower hourly rate.

Ms. Oliver handles all scheduling of initial consultations for the firm's attorneys, as well as familiarizing new clients with the firm's attorneys, procedures, and fees.
